COVID-19 & How It Impacts Your Travel Coverage

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, it is important to educate yourself on the risks of travel and the impact that it may have on your travel coverage. We've compiled a brief FAQ and links to valued resources below. Please note that all of this information is subject to change as the situation progresses. We strongly urge you to heed the advisories and travel restrictions set forth by the Government and confirm your travel coverage with your provider for any current or upcoming trips.

Am I covered by my travel medical coverage if I contract COVID-19 while travelling?
Due to the fluidity of this situation, many carriers are addressing travel coverage questions day-by-day and on an individual case-by-case basis. For example, coverage for someone who has already been out of the country prior to travel advisories and restrictions being issued may be handled differently than those who have recently departed or are planning an upcoming trip. Please reach out to your travel insurance provider to confirm your coverage.

I have an upcoming trip booked. Should I be cancelling my travel plans?
The Government of Canada is urging all Canadian residents to avoid all non-essential travel and return home to Canada as soon as possible if you are currently abroad. Please refer to the Government of Canada travel advisories bulletin for the most up-to-date information.

I have booked a cruise. Will I be covered by my travel medical while on the ship?
Currently, the Government of Canada has urged residents to avoid all cruise ship travel.
